G480-WAC Discovery

Checking out the Autotrader shortly after Christmas 2005 I came across a shabby looking Discovery advertised at Westwood Motors nr Huddersfield, advertised as 1989 on a private plate.
An inquiry determined the chassis number and this matched G480WAC, I had a trip over on New Years day and after a bit of bartering came away with the Disco in exchange for a 1974 Lightweight I had bought for my son.
We did a straight swap with each vehicle being worth about £1500, and I brought her home on the 6th Jan 2006.

Although she looked a little down at heal, almost every MOT was present to prove her 87000 miles, a bit of a tidy up got her ready for the 2006 Heritage run which was completed without a hitch, just before her MOT on the 9th may.

The MOT prove to be somewhat dissappointing as she failed on sill welding plus some inner wing repairs, major brake overhaul and a new exhaust, the welding facilitated some paintwork so where some previous owner had stuck on some rubbing strip and painted below that black, this was taken back and returned to the proper Davos white to match the rest of the car.
New side decals were sourced and fitted at major cost, but the difference was amazing, all this mean that we missed the rest of the show season and did not get a new MOT until December 2006.

2007 has been a slow year again we only managed to get to the heritage run, though we did get her picture in Classic car Weekly in a buying guide the other week, as she stands now 480 is one of the most if not the most original of the surviving press fleet vehicles, just turning over 90,000 miles everything on her is as it was when she left the factory, the only thing left to do is tidy up the engine bay and remove the kenlow fan fitted by a previous owner, just to keep her in original unrestored trim to try to keep that patina of when she was new. regards Ian
